Cancun’s Paseo Cancunense Adds Night Edition in June

Families biking and walking along a closed street in Cancun during Paseo Cancunense

Cancun, Quintana Roo — The weekly Paseo Cancunense program, which closes a stretch of Avenida Bonampak and Malecón Tajamar to vehicle traffic every Sunday, will hold its first night edition on June 13, officials announced.

Diana González Toledo, director of the program, said the initiative aims to promote family togetherness, reclaim public spaces, and encourage healthy outdoor activities.

The regular Sunday edition runs from 7 a.m. to noon, with the area closed to cars and motorcycles. Families can borrow bicycles for children and adults, join zumba classes starting at 8 a.m., and enjoy rotating recreational activities each week.

González noted the space is open to walkers, runners, rollerbladers, and those with strollers or tricycles. Pets are also welcome.

“The idea is to experience the streets differently and create friendlier spaces for everyone,” she said.

Local restaurants and cafes, including Buzz Coffee, Cafenader, Remara, and Exbeburger, set up stands to sell food and drinks. The program also features local women entrepreneurs supported by municipal economic development initiatives.

The first night edition on June 13 will run from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. along the same route, offering recreational and cultural activities in the evening to avoid the heat.

Attendees can park on nearby streets in the Tajamar area or use lots at Plaza de Toros and Plaza Malecón.
