During October and November 2023, the ADO bus terminal in Cancún transported between 144,000 to 145,000 passengers. It is projected that there will be a 5% increase in passenger traffic for the same period in 2024. This increase is expected due to the traditional celebrations of the Day of the Dead on November 1st and 2nd.
The majority of these operations involve transporting passengers to tourist areas and Cancún International Airport. Elpidio Valencia Palomares, the commercial manager of ADO, explained that the expected increase is largely due to the upcoming Day of the Dead celebrations.
ADO has already arranged transportation services for the Festival of Life and Death at Xcaret Park. From Monday, October 28th to Sunday, November 3rd, there will be 25 daily transportation services from Cancún and another 25 from Playa del Carmen, each costing 228 pesos.
In addition to the transportation to Xcaret Park, a significant portion of the transportation services during this period will be related to the Hannal Pixan, a Mayan Day of the Dead celebration. This event takes place in various locations and communities across the state, attracting locals, national, and international tourists.
Tickets for transportation to Xcaret Park are already on sale. ADO anticipates a surge in passengers from October 29th or 30th. During the low season, the bus terminal typically sees a daily flow of 4,500 to 5,000 passengers. However, during the Day of the Dead celebrations, they expect an additional 10 to 15% increase in passenger traffic.
