Cancún, Mexico — A project for new intelligent lifeguard towers aims to elevate surveillance and safety standards on the main public beaches of the destination, integrating cutting-edge technology and sustainability criteria.
According to the director of Civil Protection, Antonio Riveroll Ribbon, the renovation of the lifeguard towers is not just an aesthetic change, but an effort in which agencies such as Zofemat, Ecology, Tourism, the General Secretariat, and Citizen Security have collaborated.
“The objective is to ensure that each structure meets rigorous technical specifications that facilitate the daily operability of rescuers and, at the same time, provide an immediate response to any emergency,” explained the municipal official.
What makes this project particularly “intelligent” is its technological equipment, because the new towers will have panic buttons for direct communication with authorities, solar panels for self-supply of energy, and infrared light systems, designed not to affect the local ecosystem.
With this design, the infrastructure will respond both to the need for constant surveillance and respect for the ecological environment that characterizes Cancún’s beaches.
Municipality with Executive Project
The interviewee indicated that the proposal is close to being presented before the Sanitation Committee, a body that has already promoted the strengthening of the institution through the prior delivery of trucks, ambulances, and drainage pumps.
The intention of the municipal administration is that this year the investment will be maintained to consolidate the prevention and reaction capabilities of emergency bodies.
Finally, although the initial focus is on the seven beaches with Blue Flag certification, the project has an inclusive vision and could be extended.
“It is sought that those public accesses that currently lack infrastructure also be strengthened, ensuring that both tourists and locals enjoy a safe environment,” he explained.
He added that the Benito Juárez Municipality already has the executive project, but they still do not have the budget, which should be finalized in these days.
