Cancún, Quintana Roo — A taxi driver was shot and wounded and drove himself to a hospital for treatment, authorities said.
The driver, a member of the Andrés Quintana Roo taxi union, arrived in taxi No. 3423 at the IMSS specialty clinic in Superblock 509 to receive medical care.
Hospital social work staff notified authorities around 10:40 p.m. that a man had come in with gunshot wounds.
Municipal police officers responded to the hospital, where they found the taxi at the entrance to the emergency room, with bloodstains on the driver’s door.
Officers cordoned off the area and alerted the State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE). Investigators from the state Investigation Police arrived minutes later to interview the victim and open a case.
Forensic personnel then processed the scene for evidence, which was added to the investigation file.
The taxi was seized and placed under the custody of the Ministerial Police as part of the investigation into the armed attack.
