Cancún is preparing to host the Eighth State Environmental Education Forum in Quintana Roo, with the theme "Environmental Education in Private Initiatives". The event is scheduled for Friday, January 24th, 2025.

The forum will take place at the "October 8" Theater in Cancún, from 8:45 am to 3:00 pm, Quintana Roo time. The main goal of this year's edition is to explore and share the environmental education programs implemented by the business sector. The forum will examine the impact of these programs on the environment and society, their adherence to regulations, and their contribution to Sustainable Development Goals.

In addition, a Coordination Agreement will be signed under the Yucatan Peninsula Basin Council. This agreement will involve authorities from the National Water Commission (Conagua) and the Quintana Roo municipalities, with Gonzalo Merediz Alonso, president of the Yucatan Peninsula Basin Council, participating.

The forum will feature keynote lectures, including "Congruence and Action: Environmental Education in the Business World" by Monica de Alba Murillo, an Environmental Education Consultant, and "The Challenge of Environmental Education as a Social Responsibility Strategy" by Irene Monserrat Figueroa, director of the Social Responsibility Consultancy.

The program also includes six thematic presentations, a conversation, and eight videos showcasing actions developed by Gettecca members to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The thematic panels are "Programs with Environmental Education", "Exchange of Experiences in Programs with Environmental Education", and the talk "The Transformative Role of the Private Initiative in Environmental Education and its Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals”.

The Specialized Work Group on Education, Communication and Water Culture of Quintana Roo (Gettecca), established in 2014, consists of 45 members. This group includes civil society organizations, private initiatives, research centers and universities, all working together with government entities to promote the care and conservation of water and the environment in Quintana Roo.
