Cancún, Quintana Roo – With the conclusion of the first academic cycle of the School of Artistic Initiation of Cancún, the Municipal Institute of Culture and the Arts is preparing the enrollment call for a new generation of students.
The new call will expand the age range for girls, boys, and adolescents aspiring to enter the school, from 6 to 15 years old.
The institute’s director, Sergio Carlos López Jiménez, reported that the call will be published in January to begin classes in February, giving continuity to the artistic training project promoted by the Benito Juárez municipal government.
As with the first generation, he specified, the school’s capacity will be limited to 100 students, although at this stage a new group of adolescents aged 13 to 15 will be incorporated.
These cited applicants were not previously contemplated, which is why the scope of the educational program will be expanded, the final details of which are still being defined.
Among the basic requirements for registration, proof of address, a copy of the school ID, and other documents to be specified will be requested.
López Jiménez recalled that the school’s educational model contemplates a common core of training.
Students will have the opportunity to explore four artistic disciplines, such as theater, music, dance, and visual arts, the latter including painting, sculpture, and drawing, in the first year.
The objective is for the student body to identify the areas that interest them most to specialize in the discipline of their choice in the future.
The process will begin with the reincorporation of the first generation when they resume classes in February.
The students of this initial generation have not only developed their training in the classroom but have also participated in relevant cultural events, such as the National Theater Showcase held in November of last year.
Likewise, they presented their first pastorela “La Pasto,” whose staging at the school’s facilities reflected their effort, creativity, and collective work, with the accompaniment of teachers and families.
Finally, the director indicated that the Institute of Culture and the Arts is working in parallel on new productions with the municipal companies.
Similarly, in the formation of a new classical orchestra company and in the organization of the Black Dance Festival, which will take place in Cancún in mid-2026, in collaboration with the National Theater Coordination.
