Cancun Public Bus Drivers Brawl on Major Avenue

Two Cancun public bus drivers fighting on a busy avenue, one holding a tire iron

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A video circulating on social media shows two public bus drivers brawling on one of Cancun’s busiest avenues, sparking outrage among residents who are demanding stricter oversight of public transport operators.

The incident occurred on Avenida Nichupte near Supermanzana 17, a high-traffic area. According to preliminary reports, the conflict began when drivers from two different bus lines — La Franja and Transporte Terrestre Estatal — started competing for the right of way, leading to a direct confrontation. Witnesses said one driver abruptly cut off the other, triggering the altercation.

In the video, one driver is seen getting out of his vehicle carrying a tire iron, which he used to attack his rival. The other driver then reversed his bus and rammed into the aggressor’s vehicle, escalating the danger for everyone nearby.

What has caused the most concern is that at least one of the buses was carrying passengers at the time, exposing them to the violence. The incident has drawn sharp criticism from the public, who are calling for better regulation and monitoring of bus driver behavior.

As of now, authorities have not reported any arrests, but they are expected to investigate based on the video evidence. The brawl has reignited debate about safety on Cancun’s public transport system and the need for stricter penalties to prevent such conduct.
