Cancun, Quintana Roo — More than 5,000 people are expected to take part in Cancun’s Pride march on June 6, organized by the Cancun Pride International Collective. The event will blend celebration, remembrance, and demands for LGBT+ rights in Quintana Roo.
Organizing committee members Ruben Brito, Miguel Dzib, and Emiliano Sanchez said the march aims to highlight both progress and outstanding debts in human rights, noting that the high expected turnout reflects growing public support for diversity.
The route will begin on Avenida Nichupte, proceed toward Avenida Tulum, and pause at the Plaza Las Americas bridge for a moment of silence in memory of members of the sexual diversity community who have died.
The march will then continue to the iconic Ceviche area, where organizers will deliver a public statement denouncing social problems, demanding justice, and calling for accelerated public policies that they say remain lagging.
The contingent will conclude at the Benito Juarez Municipal Palace and later at Parque de las Palapas, where an artistic and cultural program will showcase LGBT+ talent and reinforce a message of unity. “What is not named does not exist, and silence equals death,” the organizers emphasized.
The pride festival will begin at 6:00 p.m. with local performances, followed by national and international artists. Diversity ambassadors will be named, including Angie Osorio representing the trans community. Pre-events are scheduled for May 2 and 3 as part of the month against LGBT-phobia.
