Cancun, Mexico — The city is preparing for one of its most emblematic religious events with the 15th edition of the Living Stations of the Cross at Playa Delfines. This year's presentation is expected to gather up to five thousand attendees in a natural setting facing the Caribbean Sea.
Organized by the Creative Evangelization group, the performance seeks to convey the message of the Passion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ through a representation that combines spirituality, community participation, and a unique setting. For this edition, young people have joined the cast to strengthen the dynamic without losing the event's traditional essence.
The general coordinator, Nicte Ha Sabido, reported that the team is ready for the Good Friday presentation, one of the most important dates in the liturgical calendar.
Event Details and Coordination
The event will take place on Friday, April 3rd at 4:00 PM at Playa Delfines, located at kilometer 17 of the Hotel Zone. Prior to the main performance, starting at 1:00 PM, activities such as adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and confessions will be offered.
One of this year's distinctive features will be a 360-degree stage, which will allow attendees to follow the performance from different angles and create a more immersive experience.
In this edition, Rafael Pérez Pasquel will portray Jesus, while María Coral Montalvo will bring the Virgin Mary to life, leading a cast that combines experience with new talents.
Municipal Oversight for Holy Week Events
Meanwhile, municipal authorities reported that at least 20 requests for support and permits for religious activities in public spaces have been submitted to the City Council in connection with Holy Week.
The Director of Religious Affairs, Yendy Gabriela Martín Chanché, explained that this period mainly focuses on events of the Catholic Church, which require coordination with agencies such as Transit, Firefighters, and Civil Protection to guarantee the safety of attendees.
Among the events with the highest attendance is the Via Crucis at Playa Delfines, in addition to the performance at the Cristo Rey church, located in Parque de las Palapas, which also brings together a significant number of parishioners.
In contrast, other parishes report attendances ranging from 100 to 700 people. The official noted that, unlike other religious denominations that hold their services indoors, the Catholic Church typically uses public spaces, which requires obtaining permits and coordinating special operations.
Finally, the authorities called on citizens to respect the guidelines during these events to guarantee an orderly and safe development of the religious celebrations in the city.
