Cancún, Quintana Roo — Cancún Mayor Ana Paty Peralta swore in Ulises Adrián Martínez Monzón as the new director of the city’s Tourism Police, emphasizing the unit’s role in both security and the destination’s global image.
“Cancún deserves an exemplary Tourism Police force, and that is the standard we are establishing today. It represents not only security but also Cancún’s image to the world,” Peralta said during the swearing-in ceremony.
The Benito Juárez City Council unanimously approved Martínez Monzón’s appointment during its 37th Ordinary Session. Peralta highlighted the council’s confidence in the new official, who has the education, training, and professional experience required for the position.
“I have instructed the new director very specifically to conduct himself with the highest level of professionalism, discipline, and commitment to Cancún and its residents. His mandate is clear: impeccable work, close to the people—both residents and the millions of visitors we receive—respectful of human rights, and above all, worthy of what our city and those who visit us deserve,” Peralta stated.
The mayor emphasized that deviations, abuses, or omissions in performance will not be tolerated, stressing the need for work with order, honesty, and results. She said the director will receive ongoing supervision, continuous training, and close coordination with all security areas, as public peace and trust are a priority.
In a separate matter, councilors unanimously authorized distributing the remaining more than 18,000 pairs of shoes from the “Pasos para la Transformación Calzado Escolar 2025” program for the 2025-2026 school year. The shoes will be distributed through social brigades by the Municipal Secretariat of Well-Being, direct assistance to vulnerable or priority-need individuals, civil associations, or child care centers, upon request.
To encourage more participation, councilors also unanimously approved changing the dates for the call to select youth aged 18 to 29 to represent the City Council in the “Cabildo Juvenil 2026” program. Registration will now close on April 7, with the session scheduled for April 17.
