Richmond, Virginia — Breeze Airways has announced a new nonstop route between Richmond International Airport and Cancun, Mexico, marking the first direct connection between the two cities in more than a decade.

The service is set to begin on January 8, 2027, with two weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays. The route aims to provide easier access to one of Mexico’s most popular tourist destinations from the Virginia capital.

According to the airline, the addition of Cancun is part of Breeze’s broader strategy to expand its international network, particularly in the Caribbean and Mexico, where demand for leisure travel from secondary U.S. cities remains strong.

Breeze has been gradually building direct connections to international vacation spots, positioning Cancun as a key entry point into Mexico.
