Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Mexico — Authorities established a security checkpoint at a major intersection here on Monday following reports of a shootout earlier in the day in the nearby community of Limones.
State and Municipal Police officers, equipped with tactical gear and high-caliber weapons, set up the vehicle inspection point at the junction connecting the city to the Chetumal highway. The operation aims to screen vehicles entering the municipal seat.
The checkpoint was deployed after officials received reports of a gunfight around midday in Limones, a community in the municipality of Bacalar. According to official sources, federal and state security forces clashed with an armed criminal group.
Details of the confrontation remain scarce, with authorities maintaining tight control over information. Unconfirmed reports suggest there may have been casualties, but officials have not specified from which side.
The security operation involves personnel from the Mexican Army, the Mexican Navy, and various police and investigative units. Officers were positioned strategically at the checkpoint to respond quickly to any incident.
As of Monday evening, no further incidents had been reported at the checkpoint, where police continued to inspect vehicles deemed suspicious.
