Playa del Carmen, Mexico — An armed commando group stormed the central headquarters of the Sindicato de Taxistas “Lázaros Cárdenas del Río” this afternoon, triggering a major police mobilization and forcing the union to suspend operations at its offices.
According to unofficial reports, the presence of these armed individuals occurred around 12:30 p.m. and was reported minutes later by workers at the site via the emergency number.
The report generated a heavy mobilization of Municipal Police officers, who, after securing the area, were briefed on the incident but did not locate the armed subjects.
A preliminary version indicated that the armed individuals had perpetrated a robbery inside the facilities and then fled; however, this information has not yet been confirmed by authorities.
Due to the incursion by these subjects, the union suspended work at its central offices.
As of now, neither the union nor the State Attorney General’s Office has issued an official statement regarding what occurred.
No arrests have been reported.
