Buenos Aires, Argentina — Argentina has officially designated the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) as a terrorist organization, enabling financial sanctions and operational restrictions against the Mexican criminal group.

The government of President Javier Milei formalized the inclusion of CJNG in the Public Registry of Persons and Entities Linked to Acts of Terrorism and Their Financing (RePET), which falls under the Ministry of Justice. Officials said the move aligns with international commitments to combat terrorism and illicit financing.

The designation allows authorities to implement financial sanctions, freeze assets, and impose operational restrictions against the cartel and its members. The goal is to prevent criminal organizations from using Argentina’s financial system to channel resources linked to drug trafficking and other illegal activities.

The resolution was coordinated between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Security, and Justice, along with the Intelligence Secretariat. It forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen international security cooperation with countries that have already taken similar measures against CJNG.

The decision comes weeks after an operation in Mexico resulted in the death of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho,” the leader of CJNG. That incident triggered road blockades and violent episodes in multiple Mexican states.
