Tulum, Quintana Roo — State and municipal officials held a community meeting in Akumal to address residents’ concerns about access to natural areas and the legal status of various properties, following recent tensions in the coastal community.
The Tulum municipal government convened the meeting with participation from Quintana Roo’s Agency for Strategic State Projects (Agepro). Carlos Flores Hidalgo, Agepro’s director general, attended to hear residents’ concerns and provide institutional follow-up on issues that have created tension in the area.
During the dialogue, community representatives presented their concerns and demands to officials, highlighting the need for clear solutions that provide certainty for residents. The discussion focused particularly on orderly access to natural spaces and the occupation of various land parcels.
Officials agreed to maintain open communication channels with residents and establish follow-up mechanisms to address the situation in an orderly manner. They emphasized that any decisions must be based on legality and consider community needs.
Authorities reiterated that reviewing, validating, and determining the legal status of properties falls to competent agencies, and any resolution must adhere to current regulations and the rule of law.
Agepro’s participation forms part of a coordination strategy between different levels of government to address sensitive issues in Akumal, prioritizing dialogue as a means to build agreements and prevent escalation of differences.
The meeting underscored the need for authorities to maintain direct communication with residents, who have asked to be heard and included in decisions affecting their environment, land access, and community life.
