Calgary, Canada — Air Canada has announced the reactivation of its direct flights from Calgary to Cancún and Puerto Vallarta starting in December 2026, as part of a strategic expansion of its international network for the 2026-2027 winter season.
The move aims to capitalize on the sustained increase in demand for sun destinations in Mexico from the Canadian market, as well as to strengthen its presence on high-value tourist routes during the months of peak vacation flow.
Flights to Cancún will operate four times per week, while Puerto Vallarta will have three weekly frequencies. Both routes will be operated by Air Canada Rouge using Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, configured with Premium and Economy cabins. The airline will offer all passengers Canadian beer, wine, and snacks at no additional cost, plus free Wi-Fi access for members of the Aeroplan loyalty program.
Mark Galardo, executive vice president and chief commercial officer of Air Canada, emphasized that these routes respond to clear market demand.
“Our customers in Calgary especially value direct access to warm destinations during the winter. With these new options, we provide them with convenient connectivity and quality services to two of Mexico’s most popular beaches,” he said.
Expansion in South America
In addition to its renewed commitment to Mexico, Air Canada also announced the addition of Quito as a new destination in its South American network. Starting in December 2026, the airline will operate three weekly flights from Montreal and one from Toronto to the Ecuadorian capital, using Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft. These flights are designed to facilitate smooth connections from North America and Europe through its Canadian hubs.
In South America, services to Rio de Janeiro, Lima, and Santiago de Chile will also be strengthened, with increased frequencies and earlier start of operations. Likewise, flights to Bogotá will continue to be operated with wide-body aircraft and high-end cabins, including the Signature class with lie-flat seats, reinforcing Air Canada’s proposition in the Andean region and the Southern Cone.
Permanent Routes to Europe
On the other hand, the airline will make its routes from Toronto to Manchester and Copenhagen permanent, operating year-round starting in October 2026. These flights will be covered with the new Airbus A321XLR, the first single-aisle aircraft from Air Canada to offer lie-flat seats in executive class. These additions are possible thanks to the creation of an operational base for this model at Toronto-Pearson Airport.
