José Alfredo Contreras Méndez, the Mayor of Bacalar, has announced a new agreement with the local taxi union. This agreement will establish a fixed fare of only 50 pesos for transfers from the Tren Maya station to the city center. The goal of this initiative is to provide tourists with affordable and efficient transportation to the city's attractions.
The reduced fare will enable visitors to embark on a unique journey, featuring breathtaking views of the lagoon system and the Bacalar jungle. This showcases the natural beauty and richness of the region.
"The trip offers spectacular landscapes, including the lagoon system's channels and the majestic jungle. It's an experience that is definitely worth it," said the Mayor.
In addition to the transportation agreement, plans are underway to install a Tren Maya ticket office in the city center. This will allow both residents and tourists to easily access schedules, purchase tickets, and find information about this new transportation option. The Tren Maya is expected to be a significant boost for tourism in Bacalar.
The Tren Maya station's strategic location was also highlighted, particularly its close proximity to the recently opened Ichkabal archaeological site. This site has quickly become a major attraction in the region.
Contreras Méndez emphasized that the combination of affordable transportation and unique destinations will further strengthen tourism in Bacalar. The agreement with the taxi union and the integration of the Tren Maya with local attractions are part of a larger plan. This plan, backed by the Mexican Army, is a coordinated effort between the municipal government and federal authorities.
The ultimate goal of these initiatives is to establish Bacalar as a premier destination in southeastern Mexico. This will boost the local economy and promote sustainable tourism.
