Roberto Palazuelos, also known as "El Diamante Negro", filed an appeal last May as a candidate, against potential investigations against him by the Prosecutor's Office. Palazuelos is also awaiting the outcome of another legal protection trial related to possible dispossession in a protected natural area in the municipality of Tulum, where he has vested interests.
Should he gain protection from this trial, the Prosecutor's Office will be required to cease any actions against Palazuelos, including potential arrest.
Previously a Senate candidate for Quintana Roo, Palazuelos appealed against the denial of legal protection (amparo) for a likely investigation by the State Attorney General's Office. Despite his appeal, the Seventh District Court denied him federal judicial protection. On May 2nd, the legal protection trial was prematurely dismissed.
In response, Palazuelos, through the First Collegiate Circuit Court, is challenging the denial of protection against possible criminal investigations from the State Attorney General's Office. This is according to file 362/2024 of the amparo under review.
Last week, this file saw procedural activity, despite the ongoing strike in the federal courts and tribunals. This indicates that the Prosecutor's Office has already responded to Palazuelos' claims, which he presented through his legal team.
Palazuelos is still awaiting the outcome of another legal protection trial, related to potential dispossession in a protected natural area in Tulum, where he has interests. If he is granted protection in this trial, the Prosecutor's Office will be required to halt all actions against him, including potential arrest. However, due to the pause in the federal courts, the resolution is expected to be further delayed.
