The Municipal Government of Isla Mujeres, under the leadership of Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, welcomes locals and tourists to join in the Founding Festivities 2024, marking the 174th anniversary of the island's founding. These celebrations not only honor the island's rich history and unique culture but also stimulate the local economy, benefiting the island's families.

The Department of Culture has announced that the festivities will continue into next week, following the grand Coronation Night of the Ambassadors of the Foundation Festivities. On Thursday, August 15, a Holy Mass and Procession will be held in honor of the Virgin of the Assumption. The evening will see the traditional Vaquería taking place at the Municipal Explanade from 7:00 pm, featuring the lively jarana orchestra "Juan Torres y su Trombón de Oro". The Yucatecan comedian Tila María Sesto will also perform.

On Friday, August 16, the seminar "Memories of a Fishing Village" will be held at 6:00 pm in the Cabildo Room. The highly anticipated Ceviche and Isle Cocktail contests will take place at 8:00 pm in the Municipal Explanade, followed by a performance by impersonator Pierre David.

The morning of Saturday, August 17, will see a traditional floral offering at the Bay Cross at 8:00 am. Later that evening, a Public and Solemn Session will be held at the Municipal Explanade to commemorate the 174th Anniversary of Isla Mujeres.

The celebrations will conclude on Sunday, August 18, with the Beach Fest at Playa Centro from 1:00 pm. The event will feature sports and recreational activities, a Michelada Fair, and a DJ. The evening will end with a dance at the Municipal Explanade, featuring Paleto "The Voice of Cumbia" at 8:00 pm.

In addition to these events, the "Ticul con Encanto" shoe fair will be held from August 13 to 18 on the East Malecón of the Colonia Centro. This exhibition, one of the best shoe and craft displays in Mexico, originates from the neighboring state of Yucatán and will showcase crafts, shoes, and local entrepreneurs.
