Cozumel artisans and producers are being given a new opportunity for economic growth and well-being. The municipal government, backed by the Quintana Roo state government, has offered local entrepreneurs a course run by the Mexican Postal Service (SEPOMEX). The course aims to help them register and use the "Correos Clic" application, a tool designed to assist with marketing products and handling national and international shipments.
Badih Sleme Flores, the Director of Tourism and Economic Development, representing Mayor Juanita Alonso Marrufo, introduced the initiative. He explained that artisans already registered with the municipality are eligible to take the course and use the "Correos Clic" platform to list their products on the marketplace application, all free of charge. However, artisans and producers who wish to register with the app to sell their products will incur a fee.
Flores encouraged all local producers to register with the Agricultural Promotion, Fishing, and SMEs registry to avail these benefits. The aim is to help them market their products and increase sales. Staff members are also being trained to offer this course to others who wish to join the registry and sell their items on Correos Clic.
Maria Alejandra Cordova Barrientos, Director of Business Promotion and Development of the Ministry of Economic Development of Quintana Roo, highlighted the benefits of the agreement with SEPOMEX. She explained that it offers artisans and producers new, more accessible tools to reach a larger customer base. The "Correos Clic" platform is intended to provide alternative marketing strategies, in line with Governor Mara Lezama's efforts to support and boost the local economy.
The course was led by Keila Areli Caamal Uc, head of the SEPOMEX Commercial Unit. It was held at the municipal library "Gonzalo de Jesús Rosado Iturralde", where local producers and artisans learned how to use the application. They also received training in product photography, which can significantly enhance sales.
The course provided a detailed, theoretical explanation of the process merchants need to follow to register, list, sell, and ship their products. Following the training, attendees registered for the “Correos Clic” application and began using the newly learned processes to promote and sell their products in real time.
