Human Remains Found by Scrap Collectors in Cancún

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Human remains were discovered in Cancún near the Arco Vial. According to reports, members of a family of scrap metal collectors were the ones who noticed a body in the area.

Preliminary reports indicate that on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 26, individuals searching for scrap metal located a human body a few meters from a green area in Supermanzana 260. Notification was then made to emergency number 911, and minutes later, elements of the Cancún Municipal Police arrived at the zone near the Real Valencia subdivision and cordoned off the area.

Subsequently, agents from the Attorney General's Office of the State of Quintana Roo (Fiscalía General del Estado de Quintana Roo) arrived and began investigations into what is presumed to be a murder, a new violent event in the municipality of Benito Juárez.

For their part, forensic experts from the Servicio Médico Forense (SEMEFO) proceeded to collect the remains in order to transport them to the Cancún morgue, where the corresponding legally required autopsy will be performed later.

More Violence in the Tourist Destination

It has been reported that a murdered truck driver was found in Cancún, his remains discovered inside the trailer he was driving. The events occurred on Huayacán Avenue in the southern zone of the city.

On the morning of Monday, August 25 of this year, a lifeless body was discovered inside a trailer in an area very close to the Cancún International Airport. According to reports from local merchants, the tractor-trailer had been parked for several days, which drew significant attention.

After hearing nothing from the driver, a decision was made to call emergency number 911 to request the presence of authorities. Shortly thereafter, elements of the Cancún Municipal Police arrived at the site and, upon inspecting the vehicle, discovered the lifeless body of the truck driver inside the sleeper cab.

The truck belongs to the company AFH Logistic S.A. de C.V., with unit number 200 and federal license plates 78-80-3S. The area was cordoned off and the presence of elements from the Attorney General's Office of the State of Quintana Roo was requested, as there were evident signs of violence suggesting the victim was a homicide.

It transpired that the victim had bruises, wounds from a sharp weapon, and was wrapped in sheets.

Forensic experts from the Servicio Médico Forense came to this part of Cancún to collect the remains and transport them to the morgue, where the corresponding legally required autopsy will be performed later to determine the victim's identity and ascertain the cause of death.
