Tulum, Mexico — The Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport in Tulum has nearly doubled its international passenger traffic during the first half of 2025, reaching 417,600 passengers who have chosen Quintana Roo's fourth airport.
According to figures from the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), the terminal received 212,200 passengers between January and June 2024. For the same period this year, it has recorded 417,600 foreign travelers, an increase of 205,500 passengers year-over-year.
This growth rate of 96.8 percent places Tulum's airport among the top 10 in the entire country for international traffic volume, a significant achievement for a facility that has been operational for only a year and a half.
In addition, the Tulum air terminal accounts for nearly all the international traffic mobilized by the Olmeca-Maya-Mexica Airport, Railway, Auxiliary Services, and Related Services Group (Gafsacomm). The statistical recount from the AFAC establishes that in the first half of the year, the state airport group mobilized 454,400 passengers, of which 417,600 correspond to the Tulum air terminal, representing 92 percent of the total. The remaining 8 percent of international traffic corresponds to the Felipe Ángeles International Airport in Mexico City.
Since its first year, the Tulum air terminal has exceeded expectations. Initial projections estimated it would mobilize 700,000 passengers in its first year of operation. However, by November 21, 2024, it had already surpassed 1,074,000 passengers and 8,500 flight operations.
In that first year, the airport incorporated flights from airlines such as Aeroméxico, Viva Aerobús, and Mexicana de Aviación, with service to the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA). Viva Aerobús also operates flights from Tulum to Monterrey and Guadalajara.
Furthermore, the airport's official site currently lists ongoing international flights from Miami and Dallas operated by American Airlines; Atlanta operated by Delta; Houston with American Airlines; and San José, Costa Rica, with Volaris.
