Cozumel, Quintana Roo — Municipal President José Luis Chacón Méndez presented the awards for the LIV Mexican Boat Rodeo 2025, with the vessel Romina, hailing from Puerto Aventuras, claiming first place after scoring 11,060 points. The winning team received a Ford S10 Max pickup truck, the top prize in this prestigious competition.
Recognition for Participants and Organizers
In his remarks, President Chacón thanked all participants for elevating the tournament, noting that Cozumel’s event has surpassed 110 registered boats statewide since the pandemic.
"Thank you to the families. It was heartening to see women, girls, and boys participating—this is part of social education. This success belongs to the organizers and the committee, who worked tirelessly to restore Cozumel’s prestigious tournament," he said.
Antonio Benites, Undersecretary of Economic Development and representative of State Governor Mara Lezama, emphasized the event’s economic and social impact, highlighting the involvement of women, children, and entire families.
"Congratulations to President Chacón for promoting these activities and actively participating, setting an example of the islanders’ passion for this competition," Benites stated.
Awards Ceremony Highlights
The evening’s most anticipated moment was the prize distribution, beginning with recognitions for the best catches in the "Species" category. A special award was given to 10-year-old Javier Zetina May, the tournament’s youngest angler.
Additional honors included the "Bad Luck" prize, the "Women’s Boat" award, and distinctions for "Best Captain" and "Best Sailor."
The top five boats were announced amid rising excitement:
- Fifth place: Marcangel
- Fourth place: Reel Fenix
- Third place: Pesca Pesca (awarded a Chevrolet Aveo)
- Second place: Waterbase (awarded a Chevrolet Onix)
- First place: Romina (awarded the Chevrolet S10 Max)
Motorcycles were also awarded to the best captain and sailor, along with the traditional "Polla" prize.
