Quintana Roo, Mexico — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has shared significant updates benefiting working parents in the municipalities of Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, and Cancún. The introduction of new Education and Childcare Centers (CECI) marks a substantial improvement over the previous daycare models operated by the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).

Enhanced Childcare and Educational Support

During the program La Voz del Pueblo, Governor Lezama emphasized that the CECI initiative resulted from collaborative efforts with IMSS Director General Zoé Robledo. The centers aim to provide a safer and more educational environment for the children of workers.

The first three CECI locations in Quintana Roo align with a broader initiative led by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to promote family well-being. Beyond basic childcare, the centers will implement a new pedagogical and preventive model designed to foster the comprehensive development of children.

National Network of Women Weavers and Support Services

Governor Lezama also invited women in Quintana Roo to join the Red Nacional de Tejedoras de la Patria (National Network of Women Weavers of the Homeland), an initiative introduced by President Sheinbaum. The program seeks to create support groups for women, encouraging mutual development and protection.

Additional measures include the establishment of Women’s Support Centers and a dedicated helpline, 079, set to launch on May 1. The service will address the specific needs of women across the state.

Expanded Housing Program and Upcoming Presidential Visit

Governor Lezama announced that President Sheinbaum will visit Cancún on April 25 to inaugurate the Programa de Vivienda para el Bienestar (Housing for Wellbeing Program) in the Benito Juárez district. Originally planned for 18,000 homes, the project has been expanded to 30,000 units due to Lezama’s negotiations, ensuring broader access to dignified housing solutions.

Public Health and Community Initiatives

The governor also addressed public health concerns, announcing the Semana Nacional de Vacunación (National Vaccination Week), running from April 26 to May 3. Residents are encouraged to review and complete their vaccination schedules, with priority given to children and seniors at all available health centers.

In a separate initiative, Día del Niño (Children’s Day) celebrations will be held simultaneously in 100 rural communities historically excluded from such events. Activities will begin at noon, bringing joy to underserved areas.

Warning Against Virtual Extortion

Governor Lezama urged residents to take precautions against rising virtual extortion attempts. She emphasized that 99% of such calls originate from prisons within the country and advised immediate disconnection if a suspicious call is received. Reports can be made to emergency numbers 911 or 086.

Through these measures, Governor Lezama reaffirmed her commitment to security and well-being, striving to improve living conditions and foster a more supportive and educational environment for Quintana Roo residents.
