Quintana Roo, Mexico — Quintana Roo’s hotel industry continues to expand, with two major projects totaling 782 new rooms and an investment of $1.3 billion underway in Costa Mujeres and Playa del Carmen. The developments bring the state closer to surpassing Las Vegas in total hotel room inventory.

New Resorts Drive Growth

Grupo Posadas is set to open its new Devossion by Live Aqua Playa del Carmen this summer, adding 314 rooms to the region. The property is part of the brand’s nationwide expansion in the all-inclusive segment, aiming to capitalize on high occupancy rates and competitive pricing in tourist-heavy destinations.

Meanwhile, Proyecto Amaneceres Costa Mujeres, a 468-room development on Isla Mujeres’ mainland, has been approved by Mexico’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat). The project, led by Solar Solimanche S.A. de C.V., falls under the Desarrollo Turístico Costa Mujeres master plan and has a five-year construction timeline.

Quintana Roo Nears Las Vegas in Room Count

Quintana Roo currently hosts 135,961 hotel rooms across 1,478 properties, marking a 9.2% increase since June 2022, when the state had 124,463 rooms. According to the Quintana Roo Ministry of Tourism (Sedetur), the region is now fewer than 10,000 rooms away from matching Las Vegas’ 150,000-room inventory.

Sedetur projections indicate that Quintana Roo will soon overtake the U.S. gaming hub in hotel infrastructure, reinforcing its status as a global tourism powerhouse.
