Yucatán, Mexico — Representatives from Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, along with the Mexican states of Campeche and Quintana Roo, have confirmed Yucatán as the host of the Ki-Huic Mundo Maya tourism fair. The event is scheduled to take place from June 2 to 5, 2026, marking its return after a 12-year hiatus.

The decision was finalized during the LXXXI Meeting of the Regional Commission of the Mundo Maya Organization, held in Placencia, Belize, from June 30 to July 2. Participants expressed hope that the event would receive support from Mexico’s federal Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora.

A Multinational Tourism Showcase

Raúl Paz Noriega, Undersecretary of Sustainable Tourism Development for Yucatán’s Ministry of Tourism Promotion, stated that Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, and Quintana Roo, as well as Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, will participate in Ki-Huic. The fair will highlight each region’s best tourism offerings for international audiences.

“Under the presidency of the Mundo Maya Organization, which Mexico will assume next year, Ki-Huic will be held in Mérida from June 2 to 5, 2026,” Paz Noriega said. “This event will bring together buyers and sellers of tourism products, as well as service providers in the sector, with a special emphasis on sustainable and community-based tourism, which will be the hallmark of the Mundo Maya multi-destination.”

Strengthening Regional Collaboration

The meeting in Belize was chaired by Anthony Mahler, Belize’s Minister of Tourism, and Ana Beatriz González, Technical Secretary of the Mundo Maya Organization. The agenda included conferences, forums, and a business roundtable coordinated by the Belize Tourism Board.

Vladimir Hernández Lara, Head of Chancery and Political Affairs at the Mexican Embassy in Belize, represented the Mexican government. Discussions focused on strategies to strengthen regional positioning, improve connectivity, and facilitate tourism among member countries.

As a result of these talks, Yucatán received an invitation to participate in the 2025 Central America Travel Market, a platform for promoting regional tourism. The event will take place from October 21 to 23, 2025, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and will gather key players in the international tourism industry.

A Renewed Focus on Sustainable Tourism

The relaunch of Ki-Huic underscores the Mundo Maya Organization’s commitment to sustainable and community-driven tourism. The fair aims to showcase the cultural and natural wealth of the region while fostering economic opportunities for local businesses.

With Yucatán at the helm, the 2026 edition of Ki-Huic is poised to reestablish the event as a cornerstone of tourism promotion in the Mundo Maya region.
