Young Man Suffers Machete Attack to Skull in Tulum Neighborhood; Attacker Escapes

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A young man sustained severe head injuries after being attacked with a machete in the Yokolkin neighborhood, an informal settlement in Tulum, prompting a response from emergency services.

Authorities received an emergency call reporting the incident on Géminis Street, where the victim was found with a deep head wound believed to be caused by a machete. When police and medical personnel arrived, the young man was bleeding heavily.

Witnesses at the scene said the victim had been drinking alcohol with others shortly before the attack. According to accounts gathered, an argument escalated into a physical fight, culminating in the machete assault that caused the serious cranial injury.

Private paramedics provided first aid, bandaging the wound to stabilize the victim and prevent further blood loss. Due to the severity of the injury and the risk posed by the head wound, they decided to immediately transport him to a hospital in Playa del Carmen for specialized medical care.

The suspected attacker fled the scene before security personnel arrived. Despite a search operation in the surrounding area, authorities have not reported any arrests or identified the assailant.

Officials from the State Prosecutor’s Office arrived to collect evidence and witness statements for the investigation file. Authorities urged the public to report any information that could help locate the aggressor.

This latest violent incident in an irregular neighborhood highlights vulnerability issues in some areas of the municipality, where conflicts fueled by alcohol can lead to high-risk assaults. The young man’s condition is reported as serious, pending an official medical update.
