Mexican folk art is a vibrant reflection of the nation's history, identity, and worldview. Generations of master artisans have kept ancestral techniques alive, creating unique pieces that showcase Mexico's cultural richness. In this spirit, Grupo Xcaret has taken on the responsibility of promoting and preserving Mexican Folk Art.
Folk art is more than just decoration within Grupo Xcaret's parks and hotels. It serves as a unique space that enhances visitor experiences and pays homage to the talented creators. From the decor in its three hotels to the collections displayed and sold in its boutiques and parks, Grupo Xcaret has implemented a direct purchase model from the artisans. This model ensures that the artisans' work is credited, their consent is obtained to display each piece, and the original essence of their work is preserved.
This approach not only dignifies the artisans' work but also contributes to the economic sustainability of hundreds of families who depend on this tradition. Spaces such as the Pueblo Maya in Parque Xcaret exemplify this commitment by offering a direct sales platform for artisans without intermediaries.
The Xcaret Fair of Mexican Folk Art is an annual event that brings together the country's most talented artisans. It serves as a gathering, learning, and direct marketing space from the creator to the public. The fair has evolved into a platform for recognition and support for these cultural expressions, creating unique opportunities for those dedicated to art. The 2025 edition of the fair is scheduled for September 25 to 28, reinforcing Grupo Xcaret's commitment to preserving folk art.
Moreover, all sales proceeds go directly to the artisans. Grupo Xcaret allows them to participate and set up their stands at no cost, ensuring that each creator receives the total of their direct sales to the public.
In celebration of Artisans' Day, Grupo Xcaret is launching a special initiative: the placement of a replica of the world's largest cazuela at Hotel Xcaret Mexico. This monumental piece, which won the Guinness Record in 2014, is the work of master artisan Bernardo Camacho Quiroz from the State of Mexico. He participated in the first edition of the Xcaret Fair of Mexican Folk Art in September 2024 and sadly passed away weeks after the event.
Before his death, Quiroz donated this iconic piece to Xcaret, trusting that it would find a home where his art would be admired and celebrated by people worldwide for generations to come. The replica of the world's largest cazuela serves as a tribute to Quiroz and his talent and symbolizes the importance of preserving our cultural roots through art.
Each handcrafted piece embodies the soul of its creator, and its value extends beyond the material it is made from. It is a living legacy that needs to be protected and promoted. Grupo Xcaret deeply appreciates this unique piece, a testament to the love and passion of its creator, and a representation of the heart of Metepec, State of Mexico, an internationally recognized place for its ceramic creations. This generous gift encourages Grupo Xcaret to continue its role as a dedicated promoter of folk art.
