Tulum, Mexico — Employees of the "Hotelito Azul" hotel and "Olivia" restaurant, located in Tulum’s coastal zone, have publicly denounced the non-payment of their salaries for the past five pay periods, sparking discontent and concern among staff.

Allegations of Repeated Labor Violations

According to testimonies gathered, the property is owned by a family originally from Monterrey. Workers claim this is not an isolated incident, alleging similar cases occurred in previous years where some employees never recovered their unpaid wages.

Employees state they have not abandoned their positions out of fear of permanently losing the money owed to them. They allege they have been warned that resigning would result in forfeiting accumulated payments. This practice has reportedly created a tense and uncertain work environment.

Calls for Labor Intervention

The workers have requested intervention from the Conciliation and Arbitration Board to ensure payment of their salaries. They emphasized that wages are a fundamental right and withholding them violates current labor laws.

As of now, the hotel’s owners or management have not issued an official statement. Labor authorities have not confirmed whether a formal complaint has been filed, but the case is expected to be addressed to prevent further harm to employees.

This complaint adds to other public denunciations in the municipality regarding alleged labor irregularities in Tulum’s tourism sector, a key economic driver for the region.
