Cancún, Quintana Roo — Authorities rescued a woman and her two children early Thursday morning after neighbors reported a domestic violence incident in the city’s Paseos Kabah neighborhood.
Police officers and members of the Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence (Geavig) surrounded a home in Supermanzana 223 after an anonymous call to emergency services. The caller reported hearing a woman screaming for help.
Officers from the Municipal Security and Transit Department responded to the scene near Jacinto Canek and Gonzalo Guerrero avenues after the C5 Security Complex activated emergency protocols.
Neighbors directed police to the residence where the screams originated. Officers made contact with a visibly injured woman who said her partner, apparently under the influence of alcohol, had physically and verbally assaulted her in front of their two young children. She had screamed to neighbors for assistance.
Geavig officers transported the woman in a patrol vehicle and informed her they would take her to the Specialized Women’s Prosecutor’s Office to file a formal complaint. Authorities also arranged comprehensive support for the children through municipal DIF system specialists and psychologists.
Police located and detained the alleged perpetrator based on the victim’s identification. The man was taken to Municipal Police facilities for medical certification, which reportedly indicated alcohol consumption.
Authorities turned the suspect over to prosecutors for investigation. Sources indicate the couple has a history of domestic violence incidents.
