Cancún, Quintana Roo — A Guatemalan woman suffered serious injuries after being struck by a speeding pickup truck while attempting to cross a street in Cancún on Friday.
According to initial reports, the accident occurred when the driver of a white pickup truck entered an intersection with the traffic light allegedly showing amber while traveling at excessive speed. At that moment, the pedestrian was crossing the roadway, and the driver reportedly failed to notice her presence.
The impact was so severe that the woman was thrown several meters through the air before landing heavily on the asphalt pavement. Witnesses said she remained conscious but visibly in pain and unable to get up on her own after the collision.
Bystanders immediately called emergency services, requesting an ambulance. Minutes later, a private medical unit arrived at the scene, and paramedics provided pre-hospital care.
After stabilizing her condition, emergency personnel transported the woman to a city hospital for specialized evaluation and treatment, where her condition was reported as serious.
Municipal Transit Department officers also responded to cordon off the area and conduct the corresponding investigation. Authorities have begun determining legal responsibility to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident and the legal situation of the driver involved.
The incident caused traffic congestion in the area for several minutes while rescue operations and official procedures were carried out.
