Benito Juárez, Quintana Roo — A woman has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for human trafficking involving the sexual exploitation of a minor, authorities announced.

Yoselin Yamilex Domingo López received the sentence after being convicted of trafficking for prostitution or other forms of sexual exploitation against a victim whose identity remains protected. The crimes occurred starting in June 2023 when López convinced the minor to live with her, promising to improve her quality of life through a job preparing food for sale.

Two weeks after moving in, the victim witnessed a man arrive at the house and hand López a roll of cash. López then locked the victim in a room with the man, who raped her. When the teenager confronted López afterward, she responded that she needed the money.

On July 27, 2023, around 10 p.m., López gave the victim a glass of juice that caused her to fall asleep almost immediately. Upon waking the next day, the victim realized she had been raped again. She fled to her father’s house, reported what happened, and called emergency services at 911, leading to López’s arrest.

After reviewing the evidence, a judge sentenced López to 22 years in prison and imposed a fine of 1,556,000 pesos, plus 73,488 pesos in reparations to the victim.
