Mérida, Yucatan — A woman has been formally charged with fraud after allegedly posing as the legal representative of a coastal property in Yucatan, collecting a substantial payment from a buyer, and then disappearing.
M.E.A.P. was ordered to stand trial following a hearing at the Mérida Oral Justice Center, where the State Prosecutor’s Office presented evidence from case file 30/2026.
A judge granted prosecutors three months to complete their investigation after reviewing the evidence and issuing the formal charges.
According to authorities, the suspect presented herself as the legal representative of a property in Chuburná Puerto, offering it for sale and receiving an advance payment as part of the agreement. She allegedly provided a notarized power of attorney that later proved to be irregular.
After receiving the payment, the accused cut off all communication with the buyer, prompting the victim to investigate. The buyer discovered at the Public Property Registry that the land was actually part of a bank trust, revealing that the documentation presented had likely been falsified.
Given the seriousness of the allegations and procedural risks, authorities confirmed precautionary measures imposed from the initial hearing, meaning M.E.A.P. will remain in preventive detention throughout the criminal proceedings.
The case remains under investigation as prosecutors gather additional evidence to strengthen the fraud charges.
