Quintana Roo's State Attorney General's Office (FGE) has successfully secured a preventive imprisonment order for up to two years against Alejandro "N", alias El Rayo. He is suspected of involvement in the murder of Tulum's former Secretary of Public Security, an incident that took place on March 21.
According to the case file, Alejandro "N" faces charges of qualified homicide and attempted homicide. The latter charge relates to an attack on the official's bodyguard, who was also targeted during the incident. The events unfolded as the victim, accompanied by his driver and bodyguard, arrived at his home. Upon exiting their vehicle, they were ambushed and fired upon, resulting in the immediate death of the Public Security head.
Following the crime, the alleged perpetrator fled to Tamaulipas and later to the port of Veracruz. There, he was apprehended and returned to Quintana Roo to face judicial authorities.
The judge, having reviewed the evidence presented by the FGE, initiated proceedings and ordered a precautionary measure of preventive imprisonment for a period of two years, or until the conclusion of the judicial process.
This case has drawn significant public attention due to the victim's high-ranking position within the police force. It also highlights the growing issue of violence and criminal activity in the northern part of the state, particularly in tourist hotspots such as Tulum and Playa del Carmen. These areas have seen a sharp rise in insecurity levels over recent years.
