Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A LIPU bus driver crashed into a tree early Saturday morning in the Playacar neighborhood, causing material damage but no injuries.
The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. when bus number 6525 was traveling on Paseo Xaman Ha Avenue. As the driver approached a roundabout near the Sandos hotel, he lost control of the vehicle and collided head-on with a tree, where the bus became stuck.
Neighbors, alerted by the loud noise, came out of their homes to check on the situation and notified authorities through the emergency number. They also captured images of the accident while waiting for emergency services to arrive.
Municipal Transit Department officers responded to the scene to manage the situation and coordinate recovery efforts. Authorities later required a tow truck to remove the bus, which was blocking the roadway.
Initial reports indicate the driver lost control of the steering wheel, leading to the collision with the tree. No further details about the accident have been released.
