Merida, Yucatan — Security cameras captured an alleged assault against a woman in broad daylight on Avenida 1 de Mayo in downtown Merida, sparking widespread outrage and demands for authorities to investigate.
The footage, widely shared on social media, shows a vehicle stopping before a man gets out and appears to forcibly remove a woman from the car. The victim falls to the ground as the two argue in the middle of the street, with no bystanders intervening at the time.
After the altercation, both individuals leave the scene separately. The video has circulated widely online, drawing criticism over what many see as the normalization of such behavior in public spaces.
Social media users are calling on authorities to identify those involved and determine whether criminal charges are warranted, as well as to ensure the woman’s protection.
The incident has reignited debate about intimate partner violence in open settings, where even video evidence often fails to lead to formal complaints.
As of now, no official report has been filed regarding the incident, but public pressure is mounting for a thorough investigation so the case does not remain just another viral video.
