U.S. Tourist Arrested for Hotel Assault in Riviera Maya

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A U.S. citizen was detained by authorities from the Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC) of Playa del Carmen on Thursday morning for allegedly assaulting another guest at a hotel located along the federal highway between Puerto Aventuras and Akumal.

Incident Details

The altercation occurred around 10:30 a.m. on July 3, when municipal police officers responded to reports of an aggressive foreign guest inside the hotel complex. Upon arrival, security personnel had already restrained the suspect, identified as Yah “N,” a 43-year-old American national. The individual was dressed in white Bermuda shorts and a gray polo shirt.

According to the victim’s testimony, the detained man appeared intoxicated and, without provocation, physically assaulted him, striking him in the face and causing an injury to his left eye.

The suspect was taken into custody by authorities and transported to the facilities of the State Attorney General’s Office, where his legal status will be determined. Investigators have not yet confirmed whether the detained individual was under the influence of substances other than alcohol.

Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the victim or the severity of his injuries but confirmed that he received immediate medical attention.

The case remains under investigation.
