Tulum, Quintana Roo — The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Quintana Roo confirmed the arrest of a foreign citizen identified as Justin, 48, who was wanted in the United States for multiple sexual crimes committed against minors.
The capture occurred after a collaboration request issued by the U.S. Marshals Service, which alerted Mexican authorities to his presence in Quintana Roo territory.
According to Attorney General Raciel López Salazar, the individual had an active arrest warrant issued by a judge in Maricopa County, Arizona, for the crimes of dangerous sexual conduct with a minor, child sexual exploitation, luring a minor for sexual abuse, and lewd acts against minors.
The incidents were recorded in his country of origin and led to an international search to secure his apprehension.
After receiving the notification, agents from the Quintana Roo Investigation Police conducted location efforts in coordination with the National Migration Institute (INM), managing to locate him in the municipality of Tulum.
Once fully identified, the foreigner was detained and handed over to INM personnel for the corresponding administrative procedure regarding his transfer and placement at the disposal of the U.S. authorities that require him.
The Attorney General’s Office stated that this action is part of international cooperation mechanisms in matters of justice administration, which allow the capture of individuals attempting to evade criminal processes in other countries by taking refuge in tourist destinations such as Quintana Roo.
The detainee remains under the custody of the National Migration Institute, awaiting his deportation or direct handover to the authorities in Arizona, where he will face the charges against him.
