TULUM, Mexico — Two young men were detained in Tulum following a security operation that culminated in the seizure of a firearm and several packages of alleged narcotics. The individuals involved, identified as Ángel Joaquín "N", 19, and Julio Tatzumi "N", 18, are under investigation for potential crimes against health in the modality of drug dealing, as well as for violations of the Federal Law of Firearms and Explosives.
The detention occurred during routine patrols, when security agents intercepted the suspects and proceeded with a preventive search. During the inspection, authorities discovered a black, 9-millimeter caliber pistol, accompanied by a magazine with ten live rounds. They also secured ten transparent plastic packages containing a green herb, apparently marijuana, which was packaged as evidence.
Both the weapon and the drugs were placed under the custody of ministerial authorities to strengthen the investigation file. The two detainees were transferred and handed over to the Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office, the agency that will determine their legal status in the coming days.
The procedure is in its initial stage, and it is expected that judicial authorities will determine if there are sufficient elements to charge them. In Tulum, surveillance operations have increased in recent months due to citizen reports related to the circulation of drugs and weapons in neighborhoods and subdivisions.
The involvement of young people in this type of crime generates social concern, as it reflects the risks of increasingly younger individuals becoming involved in illicit activities.
