Playa del Carmen. In a joint police operation, two people involved in crimes against public health were arrested, one of whom has a criminal record in the United States and is wanted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
The detainees were identified as Erik “N” and Edgar Nemesio “N.” According to official information, the first has a record in the state of Texas, United States, related to the burning of his truck and a motel room.
Additionally, both subjects are allegedly linked to a report of “protection money” collection and/or extortion, to the detriment of a laundromat in Playa del Carmen.
The intervention stemmed from an extortion report, leading to coordination between the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), and the Secretariat of National Defense (Defense) through the use of technological tools, field investigation work, and tracking via C5 cameras.
During surveillance patrols, elements of the Centurion Group, in coordination with personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) and the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), detected a Chevrolet vehicle with two people on board, who upon noticing the police presence adopted an evasive attitude.
The events occurred on 50th Avenue North, between 38th Street North and Andrés Quintana Roo Avenue, where security personnel exited their unit, identified themselves, and explained the reason for the intervention before conducting a preventive search.
As a result, 91 ziploc bags containing green and dry herb with characteristics similar to marijuana were seized, along with 50 bags containing solid fragments with characteristics of crystal meth, a white Chevrolet Tracker vehicle with license plates from the State of Mexico, two cell phones, two debit cards, three SIM cards, a backpack, and a green plastic bag.
The detainees, along with the seized evidence, were placed at the disposal of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), which will determine their legal status according to the law.
