CHETUMAL — Justice has been served for those responsible for one of the most heinous crimes in Chetumal's recent history. During a Security Council meeting this Monday, the Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office confirmed the 50-year prison sentence for Luis Antonio Varela Cámara, 44, and Kiabeth Sairi Sánchez Heredia, 24. Both were found guilty of the femicide of Landy Guadalupe, a working woman and member of the taxi drivers' union (SUCHAA), whose life was taken in a motive of fanaticism and extreme violence that shocked Quintana Roo society.

A Web of Deception and Cruelty

Ministerial investigations revealed a horrific sequence of events. The convicted individuals took advantage of the victim's practice of Santería, luring her with the pretext of performing a supposed "spiritual work" at a house in the Adolfo López Mateos neighborhood. Kiabeth Sairi personally went to Landy's home to take her to the location where, far from receiving a cleansing ritual, she was subjected to systematic torture.

The forensic report was conclusive: the victim's body showed at least 72 injuries and mutilations, confirming that the attack was linked to satanic rituals before her remains were abandoned in a green area of the Satchel neighborhood.

Victim Remembered as a Pillar of Her Family

Landy was not just another statistic in the violence statistics; she was the pillar of her family. A single mother and taxi driver, she dedicated her days behind the wheel to support her family, a job that earned her the respect of her colleagues and the support of groups like Femenil Xtabay Quintana Roo. These organizations kept the demand for justice alive since 2022, remembering Landy as a woman who went out to earn a living and ended up a victim of irrational hatred disguised as religious belief.

With this ruling, the authorities close a chapter of impunity, although the scar from the brutality of the event remains in the collective memory of the capital.
