Tulum, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa inaugurated the Shared Prosperity Market at the "Dos Aguas" park dome in Tulum, a collaborative initiative aimed at bolstering the economy of Mayan communities in southern Quintana Roo. The market brings together producers and artisans from the municipalities of Tulum, Bacalar, and José María Morelos.

A Regional Market with Local Identity

More than 40 local producers participated in the first session, offering a diverse selection of seasonal goods, including pitahayas, watermelons, pineapples, honey, huayas, corn, pumpkins, cucumbers, handicrafts, hammocks, traditional sweets, plants, and fresh eggs. The market seeks to increase visibility for small-scale producers, provide direct access to consumers, and foster regional collaboration.

Shared Prosperity Market: A Socially Driven Initiative

During the inauguration, Governor Lezama emphasized that such initiatives are part of a broader public policy focused on social justice, equity, and community well-being. The program reinforces existing efforts like Artesanas del Bienestar, which uses public funds to directly benefit local communities.

“This market proves that when municipalities work together, real transformation is possible,” Lezama stated.

The governor toured the market stalls alongside Verónica Lezama, honorary president of the state DIF system, and representatives from major retailers such as Chedraui and Soriana.

Inter-Municipal Collaboration

Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo praised the initiative as a testament to the positive impact of inter-municipal cooperation. “For the first time, municipalities are working together to ensure shared prosperity reaches all communities,” he said.

The event also saw the participation of Bacalar Mayor José Alfredo Contreras and José María Morelos Mayor Erik Borges Yam. Local producers and artisans, including Fermina Chulim and Loyda Ramos, expressed gratitude for the support in expanding their economic activities.
