Tulum to Host Inaugural Xibalbá Tulum MTB 26 Race

Tulum, Quintana Roo — Tulum will host the inaugural Xibalbá Tulum MTB 26, a mountain bike competition offering a prize purse of more than 100,000 pesos and room for up to 500 riders, race organizers announced.

Event organizer Carlos Blanco said the race will feature two routes designed to provide participants with an attractive sporting experience, including proper access and services for the event.

Blanco highlighted the prize money as one of the main draws, describing it as the largest purse for a race of this kind on the Yucatan Peninsula.

“It is the largest purse on the peninsula. There are more than 100,000 pesos in prizes, and competitors are very excited and very interested,” he said.

He said participation will be capped at 500 cyclists for safety reasons and to ensure the race runs under suitable conditions. “That figure is the maximum we can guarantee for safety. What we want is for no accidents to happen,” he added.

The organizer also credited promoters and supporters who helped make the first edition possible, adding that riders have already shown enthusiasm about taking part.

Beyond the competition itself, Blanco said the Xibalbá Tulum MTB 26 is intended to drive tourist traffic to the municipality, attracting visitors who require lodging, food, transportation and other services during their stay. He described the event as an opportunity to diversify Tulum’s tourism offerings and strengthen the sports tourism segment, with benefits for hotels and other local businesses.

Organizers expect the arrival of cyclists, companions and visitors to increase hotel occupancy and economic activity as Tulum adds a new sporting fixture to its tourism calendar.
