Tulum, Quintana Roo — As the rainy season begins, the Municipal Health Directorate of Tulum has launched preventive measures to protect the local population. These efforts include fumigation across multiple areas of the municipality, with a focus on communities in the Zona Maya, as well as schools and government offices.

Proactive Measures Against Mosquito-Borne Diseases

Sonia Vargas Torres, General Director of Municipal Health, emphasized the importance of these interventions: "Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo has instructed us to work preventively by fumigating across the entire municipality. So far, all communities in the Zona Maya have already been fumigated."

The initiative aims to curb the spread of diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, and malaria, which typically surge during the rainy season due to increased mosquito breeding in stagnant water.

Vargas Torres noted close coordination with Wilbert Armando Cruz Flota, head of vector control for Zone 6: "We have already fumigated Chemuyil and Akumal," she stated, adding that fumigation will continue next week in schools that have not yet been treated to safeguard Tulum’s student population.

Comprehensive Coverage of High-Risk Areas

The health official confirmed that all parks in the municipal seat, including the Sports Unit, as well as areas such as civic courts, preventive detention cells, and parts of the Public Security facilities, have already undergone fumigation.

Additionally, Vargas Torres announced the continuation of a tire collection program to eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites. The collected tires will be recycled into pet beds, which will be donated during the next "Croquetón" event—addressing two social issues simultaneously.

The measures underscore Tulum’s commitment to mitigating health risks during the challenging rainy season.
