Tulum, Mexico — The 23rd Annual Sea Turtle Festival is underway in Tulum, bringing together families, students, and visitors to celebrate the conservation of sea turtles along the Mexican Caribbean coast. The festival, which runs from October 24 to 26 in Tulum, Akumal, and Xcacel, offers a wide program of activities designed to promote environmental education and the protection of species that nest on the region's shores.
An Event to Enjoy and Protect the Sea
The festival's programming includes sensitivity workshops, photographic exhibitions, kermeses, games, dance, and sea turtle film screenings, all in a family-friendly and joyful atmosphere.
On Saturday, October 25, activities in Tulum began at 4:00 PM with a sea turtle caravan that traveled along Avenida Satélite and Avenida Tulum until reaching the Explanada of the Palacio Municipal. Subsequently, from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM, a kermes with stands, workshops, live music, and a photographic exhibition dedicated to sea turtle conservation work was held. The day concluded with the screening of a photography contest and the award ceremony for the winners, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
Awareness and Community Around Marine Life in Tulum
The Sea Turtle Festival has established itself as one of the most emblematic environmental events in the region, uniting local residents, tourists, students, and organizations committed to the protection of coastal biodiversity. In Akumal, the celebration featured educational workshops, music, and talks on conservation, while in Xcacel, activities focused on the release of sea turtle hatchlings are prepared, an experience that inspires hundreds of attendees each year.
“This festival does not only celebrate the turtles, but also the love for our beaches, marine life, and the importance of caring for what gives us our identity as a Caribbean people,” the organizers stated.
