Tulum, Quintana Roo — In the wake of recent violent events in Akumal, including the murder of former delegate Melchor Gamboa Gamboa, authorities in Tulum have reinforced police presence and patrol operations in the area. The measure aims to restore tranquility for the local inhabitants and visitors.

Residents of the area have expressed concern regarding these events, pointing out that in addition to the violent incidents, the recent days have seen the presence of suspicious vehicles and reports of attempted extortion calls.

This situation has generated fear among the population to such a degree that some businesses have decided to temporarily close their doors as a preventive measure.

Faced with this situation, the Secretary of Public Security and Citizen Protection of Tulum, Edgar Aguilar Rico, reported that police surveillance has been increased with constant patrols and the assignment of security personnel on a permanent basis in the community, especially in the town area.

Aguilar Rico emphasized that the objective is to guarantee the safety of residents and recover the confidence of the citizenry. "The work of the police is not limited to reacting to events; we are focused on prevention and on maintaining direct communication with the people," stated the official.

Furthermore, he called on the population to actively participate in the neighborhood meetings that are held periodically in Akumal, in which he himself participates and interacts with residents. In these meetings, he said, the goal is to listen to the community's concerns and strengthen coordination between authorities and citizens to confront insecurity together.

On October 30, Melchor Gamboa Gamboa was murdered. He had previously served as the municipal delegate of Akumal and acted as a substitute in the presidency of Edith Mendoza Pino. The crime against the former official occurred inside his establishment known as Tequila Ville.
