Cancun, Quintana Roo — The Tren Maya is offering a 20% discount on fares to Cancun for travelers attending the inauguration of the Nichupte Bridge or participating in the Cancun Marathon on May 2-3, 2026.
The promotion aims to reduce traffic congestion in the Hotel Zone and provide an efficient transportation alternative during two major events expected to draw large crowds to the Mexican Caribbean.
Discount Details
The 20% discount applies to trips from any station in Quintana Roo to the Cancun station on Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3. It covers both the Mexico Fare and Local Fare in Tourist Class.
To qualify, marathon runners must present their official registration proof. Attendees of the Nichupte Bridge inauguration simply need to state the purpose of their trip when purchasing tickets.
Tickets must be bought in person at station ticket booths; the discount is not available online.
Restrictions
Authorities advise passengers to arrive early at stations, as ticket availability depends on train capacity. Discounted tickets are non-refundable and cannot be modified, so travelers should plan their trips carefully.
Strategic Connection
The Nichupte Bridge, a key infrastructure project linking downtown Cancun with the Hotel Zone, is set to be inaugurated by President Claudia Sheinbaum on May 3. The Tren Maya, which connects destinations such as Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos, and Tulum with Cancun, aims to strengthen regional integration and offer a convenient travel option during the busy weekend.
