Trailer Knocks Down Eight Poles and Damages Parked Vehicles in Cancún

Cancún, Quintana Roo — A trailer hauling heavy machinery knocked down eight poles and damaged about six parked vehicles on Bonampak Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 2 p.m. on the stretch between Uxmal and Cobá avenues, just in front of the entrance to Cazón Street in Supermanzana 3.

According to initial reports, the top of the machinery became entangled in cables strung across Bonampak Avenue. The tension created as the trailer moved forward pulled down roughly eight wooden poles.

Witnesses said they heard a loud crash as the trailer dragged the cables. One piece of a wooden pole flew from the median and struck a parked vehicle at the corner of Cazón Street. Other poles fell along the street, and tree branches were thrown near a restaurant valet worker, who escaped unharmed.

Firefighters responded to the scene and confirmed there was no greater risk. No injuries were reported.

Municipal Transit officers and officials from the Quintana Roo Mobility Institute detained the trailer operator and impounded the vehicle for the corresponding legal procedures. A crew from a telephone company began repairing the damaged infrastructure.
