Tourists Report Irregular Fees and Access Restrictions at Tulum’s Parque del Jaguar

Tourists at the entrance of Parque del Jaguar in Tulum, Quintana Roo

Tulum, Quintana Roo — Tourists visiting the Parque del Jaguar along Tulum’s coastline have reported irregular charges and access restrictions that prevented them from enjoying activities they had booked as part of tour packages.

One visitor described arriving with his family only to find conditions different from what was promised. The tour, he said, included beach access and activities such as swimming and marine observation for 465 pesos per person, which included a wristband. However, staff later told him that wristbands were not supposed to be sold on Sundays, raising questions about the legality of the fee.

The tourist also noted that the wristband he received lacked clear markings to validate its use that day, adding to confusion among visitors. Additionally, park staff demanded extra payments to enter with a vehicle, with fees reportedly ranging from 205 to 310 pesos depending on the identification presented.

Even when opting to enter on foot, the visitor said he was asked to pay again to access the beach area. This proved difficult because he was traveling with children and an elderly person, making long walks under those conditions challenging.

Faced with inconsistencies and unexpected charges, the family decided to leave without completing the tour. The complaints have sparked concern among users, who warn that such practices could harm the tourist experience and the destination’s reputation. Park administrators have not yet issued an official statement.
