In a disturbing incident, tourists at Xcaret park in the Solidaridad municipality were assaulted by a group of taxi drivers. The drivers mistakenly believed the tourists' vehicle was part of an app-based car service, which led to the violent encounter in the park's parking lot. This event has raised concerns within the business and tourism sectors of the Riviera Maya.
During the incident, the taxi drivers vandalized the tourists' vehicle. They broke a window with rocks and a gunshot mark was found on the bodywork after an assessment of the damage. The sudden and unprovoked aggression caused panic among the tourists, who were simply enjoying their vacation in the Mexican Caribbean.
Cesar Navarro Medina, president of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (Canirac), has urgently appealed to the authorities. He is calling for firm and effective action against the taxi drivers involved in the attack. Medina emphasized that such violent incidents severely tarnish the reputation of the Riviera Maya, which is one of the most significant tourist destinations in the area.
